Venezuela is the wealthiest nation in South America because of its natural resources. It gets its wealth from exporting crude oil out of the port at Lake Maracaibo. Every day at Lake Maracaibo, thousands of gallons are being taken out of the crude oil wells at the bottom. Other natural resources are iron ore, coal, aluminum, and natural gas. Venezuela grows coffee, rice, corn, and sugarcane in the lowlands and raises cattle in the llanos.
Venezuela has some of the most interesting animals in South America. At one time, two million Orinoco crocodiles were killed for their hides and the oilbird was once hunted for its fat that was used in lamps. Now both of these animals are protected as endangered species. There are even fresh water dolphins that swim in schools in the Orinoco River. In the swampy areas of the llanos, lives the world's largest rodent, the capybara. It is an herbivore and weighs up to one hundred pounds.
Venezuela is a very interesting country from its history to its resources and its geography to its animals and people. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. So Adios for now from Venezuela!
