Cold, cold, cold, that's all I can think of. It was so cold that when Pa went to milk the cow he came in and his hands were frostbitten. He rubbed snow on them and warmed himself by the fire. I had nothing to do sitting around feeling cooped up in the house. Mother wouldn't let me go outside. She told us we were going to have a spelling bee since there is no school built yet. Ma told Joseph to spell disposition. Even Pa played for a while. Pa won because I got stuck on desirable. Since Pa won, Mother made his favorite food, roast beef with potatoes and carrots from the garden. The day wasn't so bad after all.
